How important is leadership in public health?

There is an interesting article in the British Medical Journal this week describing the bold public health initiatives undertaken by New York City, and highlights the importance of leadership from Mayor Bloomberg and Commissioner of Health Freidan. For those interested in the role of public health officials and other policy makers in improving access and delivery of services it may be an interesting read.
