Medicare and Personal Health Records

Personal Health Records (PHRs), patient-managed repositories or health information, got a big boost this month when the feds announced that they will share Medicare claims data with 4 vendors. Patients using Google Health, HealthTrio,, and PassportM will be able to link their on-line accounts to their Medicare claims data showing many of the health services they use (doctor visits, hospitals stays, outpatient tests, etc.).

This is a big boost to the Health 2.0 concept and represents an endorsement of the idea that patient empowerment is good.
